Just when it seemed their fate was all but sealed, Calvary continue to prove they are not done yet, constantly reshaping what looked like a closed relegation case into a battle that even established sides are not immune to. The latest to fall into that trap are the Cops, Police FC.
The Horizon Stars eased past Police FC, thanks to Lawrence Olaboro's 78th minute strike to seal the three points at the Midigo Primary School Ground in Yumbe, handing the hosts a first major leap out of the bottom two. The result moves Calvary up to 15th place in the 16-club standings, now on 16 points, one ahead of bottom-placed Buhimba United Saints FC who sit on 15.
The win is particularly significant given Calvary's recent blip: a 2-0 defeat at Entebbe UPPC disrupted a run that had seen them go four matches unbeaten, recording two draws and two wins, and the bounce-back against a Police side sitting sixth on 44 points underlines the resilience now visible in the Midigo camp.
Up next, Calvary host NEC FC before what could be a defining relegation showdown against UPDF FC, a side directly above them on 21 points, before closing the campaign away to URA FC.
Much will depend on the form of their chief weapon: Olaboro, who now has six goals to his name this season, has emerged as Calvary's most reliable attacking outlet. But the survival equation extends beyond their own results. Calvary will be banking on UPDF FC, who had not yet played Matchday 27 at the time of writing, dropping points, and on Buhimba United Saints FC, also yet to play this round, suffering defeat in their fixture against Express FC on Friday.
With three matches remaining and only a point separating the bottom two, the relegation fight at the foot of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table is far from over.
