Uganda U-17 Women’s National Team captain Vicky Atyeronimungu once again demonstrated leadership and maturity as she guided the Teen Cranes in their First Leg of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Kenya at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba on 22 May 2026.
The young defender, who plays for Amus College WFC, wore the captain’s armband in one of Uganda’s biggest youth football fixtures, showing composure and confidence throughout the highly competitive East African encounter.
Uganda made a bright start to the game and took the lead through Shadia Nabirye, sparking celebrations among the home supporters and giving the Teen Cranes early momentum. The hosts looked determined to protect their advantage, with Vicky organizing the defense and leading by example from the back.
Kenya, however, kept pushing for a response and eventually found a late equaliser through Emily Adhiambo to level the match and set up a tense finish. Despite the pressure, Vicky remained composed and vocal on the pitch, encouraging teammates and maintaining defensive discipline against a determined Kenyan side. Her performance highlighted the trust the technical team has in her leadership qualities at such a young age.
The captaincy role marks another important milestone in Vicky’s growing football journey as she continues to establish herself among Uganda’s promising young talents. Her rise also reflects the continued impact of school and academy football development in Uganda, with Amus College WFC producing players capable of competing at the continental level.
As Uganda continues its journey and preparations for return leg of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Kenya at Nyayo National stadium scheduled for 30th May 2026 , Vicky Atyeronimungu’s leadership will remain key for the Teen Cranes both on and off the pitch.
