Under the bright lights of the FUFA Stadium Kadiba on match day 15 of the Startimes Uganda Premier League, one man stood taller than the rest not because he scored, but because he led, fought, and refused to be beaten.
Ayiko Richard a former Onduparaka Fc left back who is currently the rock at the heart of Lugazi FC’s defence and also the club captain, delivered a masterclass in leadership and resilience as Lugazi FC held giants SC Villa to a hard-fought 0–0 result. In a game filled with pressure, pace, and moments that demanded bravery, Ayiko was everywhere commanding his backline, winning crucial duels, and reading the game like a true general.
Each Villa attack met the same answer with calm positioning, perfect timing, and a captain who led by example. When Lugazi needed composure, Ayiko provided it. When they needed a voice, his was the loudest. When they needed belief, he carried it on his shoulders.
At full time no goals were scored, but the story was clear. Lugazi FC had earned their point through discipline and heart and at the center of it all was their captain.
It was no surprise when Ayiko Richard was named the StarTimes Uganda Premier League Man of the Match. The award was not just for one game, but for a performance that embodied leadership, sacrifice, and pride in the badge.
On that night at Kadiba, Ayiko Richard reminded everyone that defenders win matches too and captains define teams.
Lugazi Fc completed the first round of the Startimes Uganda Premier League in the 11th position on the table and only lost one game at their home in Najjembe against Vipers sports club.
