After a season that began with promise, passion, and unforgettable victories, Nebbi Central FC's maiden FUFA Big League campaign has ended in heartbreak. The Royals showed flashes of brilliance, conquered some of the league's biggest names, and gave their supporters memories to cherish, but football's cruel reality ultimately condemned them to relegation.
When Nebbi Central FC stepped onto the FUFA Big League stage for the first time at the beginning of the 2025/26 season, there was an overwhelming sense of optimism across Nebbi Municipality and the entire West Nile region. The Royals were not just another promoted side; they were a symbol of ambition, hope, and the growing football culture in the region.

Their debut campaign could hardly have started any better.Playing with confidence and fearlessness, Nebbi Central stunned more established opponents and quickly announced themselves as genuine competitors. Victories over Ntugasaze FC (2-0), Kataka FC (1-0), Wakiso Giants FC (4-0), Kaaro Karungi FC (1-0), and Young Elephant FC (2-0) at Luo Grounds transformed their home stadium into a fortress and ignited belief among supporters that survival—and perhaps even more—was within reach.
The Royals were not merely collecting points; they were earning respect.
Their resilience was equally evident away from home. On New Year's Day 2026, Nebbi Central secured what would become their only away victory of the season, defeating CATDA FC 2-1 at Bugolobi Coffee Grounds. It was a result that highlighted the team's fighting spirit and suggested that they had what it took to compete at the highest level of Uganda's second tier.

For a while, everything seemed possible. However, football seasons are marathons, not sprints. As the campaign progressed, the intensity of the league began to take its toll. Matches became increasingly difficult to win, confidence started to fade, and the margins between success and failure became painfully thin. The victories that once came naturally became harder to find.
Even Luo Grounds, once a fortress of celebration, could no longer guarantee positive results.
One of the most difficult moments arrived on April 12, 2026, when Nebbi Central suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at home to Bunyaruguru United FC. It was a result that exposed the mounting pressure facing the club as the relegation battle intensified.
A week later, the Royals fought hard to secure a 1-1 draw against regional rivals Onduparaka FC. While the point was valuable, it wasn't enough to ease the growing concerns surrounding the club's survival hopes.
Then came the defeat that many supporters will remember for years.
The showdown against arch-rivals Paidha Black Angels at Luo Grounds carried enormous significance. It was a match loaded with emotion, pride, and the desperate need for points. But instead of joy, it ended in agony as Nebbi Central fell 1-0 to their fierce rivals.
For many fans, that loss felt like the defining moment of the season. It was the day when belief slipped away.
Football can be beautiful, but it can also be brutally unforgiving. What had started as a remarkable story of ambition and achievement slowly transformed into a painful lesson about the harsh realities of competitive sport.
The club's struggles were further complicated by injuries to key players. Among the most significant setbacks was the lengthy absence of influential midfielder Munguromu William, whose injury deprived the team of experience, leadership, and stability during crucial stages of the campaign.

Injuries disrupted momentum, weakened squad depth, and forced difficult adjustments at a time when every point mattered.
Yet despite the disappointment of relegation, there were bright moments and individual achievements that deserve recognition.
Leading the way was the club's talisman, Edema Sabir. Throughout the season, Sabir consistently carried the attacking hopes of the Royals, finishing with an impressive 11 goals in the FUFA Big League. His goals provided unforgettable moments and demonstrated that Nebbi Central possesses players capable of competing at a high level. His performances will remain one of the enduring positives from an otherwise difficult campaign.

As the final whistle falls on the 2025/26 season, the pain of relegation will undoubtedly be felt across Nebbi. Players, coaches, officials, and supporters alike will reflect on what might have been, but football is not only about setbacks. It is also about resilience.
The Royals have shown that they can compete. They have shown that they belong among Uganda's ambitious football clubs. Most importantly, they have built a foundation upon which a stronger future can be constructed.
Relegation is not the end of the story. For Nebbi Central FC, it is merely the end of a chapter.
The club now returns to the West Nile Regional League with valuable experience, lessons learned, and a renewed determination to fight its way back. The road ahead will not be easy, but if this debut season proved anything, it is that the spirit of Nebbi Central FC cannot be measured solely by league positions.

The tears of today may yet become the celebrations of tomorrow. And as supporters look toward the future, one message remains clear:Keep the faith. The Royals will rise again.
