Lugazi FC have officially extended the contract of club captain Richard Ayiko by two years, securing the services of the experienced left-back despite reported interest from Uganda Premier League rivals NEC FC and SC Villa.
Ayiko, one of Lugazi's most influential players, was a key figure during the 2025/26 StarTimes Uganda Premier League campaign. The industrious defender featured in 26 league matches and scored once, netting the decisive goal in Lugazi's 1-0 victory over UPDF at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe.

According to the club, Ayiko's contributions have been vital since joining the team ahead of the 2023/24 season. His performances played a significant role in Lugazi FC's historic promotion to the Uganda Premier League two years ago, while his leadership as captain has helped the club establish itself in the top flight.
The experienced defender brings a wealth of top-level experience, having previously featured for Maroons FC, KCCA FC, Onduparaka FC and BUL FC before joining Lugazi as a free agent.

By extending Ayiko's contract, Lugazi FC have reaffirmed their confidence in the veteran defender, whose leadership, consistency and experience remain central to the club's ambitions as they continue building for the future in Uganda's top division.
