The final score read 1-1, but for NEC FC forward Innocent Media, Friday’s football match in Koboko was never about who won or lost.
It was about using the game he loves to honour the memory of his late father, Awule Alex.
At Nyarilo Playgrounds, Media’s Friends faced Koboko Soccer Academy in a memorial friendly that brought together footballers, friends and members of the community to celebrate Awule’s life.

The match was played in a warm but emotional atmosphere, with both teams showing respect for the occasion. Before kick-off, players and supporters gathered to reflect on Awule’s life and the love of football that connected him with those around him.
For Media, sharing the pitch with friends, teammates and members of the community offered a chance to grieve, celebrate and find comfort through the sport that has shaped much of his life.

"1-1 on the scoreboard, but today was never just about the result. It was about honouring Dad, celebrating his love for football, and keeping his memory alive,” Media said.
