West Nile Brotherhood Crosses Borders as Shaban Joins Kizza in Nairob
The West Nile football brotherhood is extending its reach beyond Uganda, with Muhammad Shaban Jagason joining Mustafa Kizza at Nairobi United ahead of the new season.
Shaban's arrival adds another Ugandan connection to the Kenyan club, which already has Kizza, Joseph Seremba, Charles Waibi, Gavin Kizito and Titus Sematimba within its ranks.
For Shaban and Kizza, however, the reunion carries a deeper connection. Both hail from West Nile and have shared the pitch during some memorable moments of their careers.
Their partnership goes back to KCCA FC, where they played important roles during the club's historic 2018 CAF Champions League campaign. KCCA became the first Ugandan club to reach the competition's group stage, with Shaban scoring the decisive second-half header in the 1-0 victory over St. George.
Kizza's deliveries from the left flank were a major part of KCCA's attacking threat, providing Shaban with quality service into the box. Their understanding between creator and finisher became a familiar sight for Ugandan football followers.
The two later reunited at KCCA, with Shaban enjoying a standout 2023/24 season, scoring 17 goals to finish as the Uganda Premier League's top scorer.
Now, their football journey brings them together once again, this time in Nairobi United colours.
There are also strong NEC FC connections within the Nairobi United group. Kizza previously played alongside Joseph Seremba and Charles Waibi at NEC FC, while Titus Sematimba is another player with a NEC FC connection.
Gavin Kizito, meanwhile, brings another familiar KCCA FC link to the squad. His presence means Nairobi United's Ugandan contingent includes players with experience from two of Uganda's established clubs, creating a network of relationships that could prove valuable during the new campaign.
For Shaban, the move comes after a brief five-month spell at Kitara FC. He joined the Hoima-based club in February 2026 on a two-year contract but departed by mutual consent after making six Uganda Premier League appearances and scoring once.
His move to Nairobi United therefore represents both a fresh start and a reunion with familiar faces.
For West Nile, the story is even bigger. Shaban and Kizza are among the region's football talents who have gone on to make their mark at major Ugandan clubs and on the international stage. Their reunion in Kenya is another reflection of the region's continued contribution to football beyond Uganda's borders.
With the new season approaching, Nairobi United now have a growing Ugandan family within their squad, strengthened by shared history, existing friendships and football connections built in Uganda.
From West Nile to KCCA, NEC and now Nairobi, these relationships have followed the players across borders.
