Ugandan defender Rogers Torach has earned a prestigious nomination to the East Africa Youth Awards (EAYA), placing him among the region’s most outstanding young sports personalities alongside Olympic champion Joshua Cheptegei and rising basketball star Adam Seiko.
The nomination recognises Torach’s rapid rise in football and his growing influence both at club and international level. At just a young age, Torach has established himself as a dependable defender for Vipers SC, one of Uganda’s top-flight clubs competing in the Uganda Premier League. His composure, tactical discipline, and consistency have made him a trusted figure in the Vipers backline, featuring prominently in high-pressure domestic and continental fixtures.
Torach’s club performances have translated seamlessly onto the international stage. His defining moment came during CHAN 2024, where he calmly converted a crucial penalty against South Africa, a goal that propelled the Uganda Cranes to their first-ever quarterfinal appearance in CHAN history. The milestone marked a historic achievement for Ugandan football and cemented Torach’s reputation as a player capable of delivering on the biggest occasions.
Sharing the nomination with Joshua Cheptegei, a global athletics icon and multiple Olympic and world champion, highlights the elite level at which Torach is now being recognised. Also nominated is Adam Seiko, a basketballer whose performances continue to elevate the profile of the sport across East Africa.
The East Africa Youth Awards celebrate young individuals who have demonstrated excellence, leadership, and impact across various fields, including sports. Torach’s nomination not only reflects his personal growth but also underscores the strength of Ugandan football’s emerging generation.
As voting and recognition continue, Torach’s inclusion among East Africa’s finest youth athletes stands as a major achievement for both the player and the nation.
