In a classroom filled with books, notes, and exam preparations, Farida Monday stands out not just as a Senior Six student, but as a young woman confidently carving her path in football refereeing. Born on 5th June 2007, Farida is part of a new generation proving that passion and discipline can go hand in hand with education.

Her journey into refereeing began with a simple but bold desire: to do something different. In the West Nile Region, where few girls step into officiating, Farida chose to challenge the norm. With guidance from a mentor, she started attending Sunday training sessions, and within a short time, an opportunity came through a FUFA-sponsored beginners’ course in 2023. That moment marked the beginning of a journey that would soon extend far beyond training grounds.

Since then, Farida has steadily risen through the ranks. From officiating friendly matches and school games, she progressed to handling post-primary competitions and FUFA-recognized leagues across various divisions, including the Uganda Cup. By 2025, her efforts earned her national recognition and a FUFA National Referee badge ,an achievement that reflects both talent and determination.

Yet behind the whistle and the authority on the pitch is a student balancing two demanding worlds. Farida’s daily life revolves around managing schoolwork and refereeing commitments. It’s a routine that requires discipline, sacrifice, and focus. For her, education remains a priority, but her passion for football continues to drive her forward.
Her journey has not been without challenges. As a young female referee in a male-dominated space, Farida has faced criticism, insults, and discouragement from fans and sections of the public. Some questioned her place in the game, while others tried to diminish her ambitions. But instead of backing down, she chose resilience. She learned to treat negativity as background noise, building confidence and strength with every match she officiates.

One of her most memorable moments came during the Late Agau Memorial match at Greenlight Stadium. It was her first major game with a large crowd , an experience that tested her composure but ultimately reinforced her belief in her abilities. It was proof that she belonged on that stage.
Preparation, both mental and physical, plays a key role in her success. Whether it’s staying active through workouts and jogging or keeping a calm mind through simple daily routines, Farida approaches each match with readiness and focus. Support from fellow referees and mentors has also been crucial, offering encouragement in moments when the journey feels tough.
Beyond her personal achievements, Farida carries a message for her peers especially young girls. She believes that passion should never be limited by fear or societal expectations. Her story is a reminder that challenges are part of the journey, but they do not define the destination.

As she prepares to complete her Senior Six education, Farida remains focused yet open to the future. While she does not see refereeing as her only career path, she dreams of officiating at higher levels, possibly earning a FIFA badge if the opportunity arises.

For now, in both the classroom and on the pitch, Farida Monday continues to set an example showing that with courage, discipline, and belief, it is possible to pursue your passion while staying committed to your goals.
