The Caterpillars walked into Bertham Recreation Grounds hoping to begin the new campaign on a high. Instead, the afternoon quickly turned into a mountain too steep to climb.
Kiyinda Boys struck three times before the break through Siraje, Odinga and Muzerwa, leaving Onduparaka with a huge deficit to overturn before the second half.
The Caterpillars returned from the break with a different rhythm. Akena Geoffrey’s men enjoyed more possession and pushed higher up the pitch, eventually finding a consolation through Abdalla Aziz.
But Kiyinda Boys remained disciplined at the back, frustrating Onduparaka’s attempts to find a way back into the contest.
Despite the disappointing result, new signing Moses Abiti emerged as one of the bright spots for the Caterpillars, putting in a standout individual display.
For Onduparaka, there is little time to dwell on the defeat. The focus now shifts to the West Nile derby against Paidha Black Angels SC, with the Caterpillars set to host their rivals at Greenlight Stadium on October 11, 2026.
