FUFA BIG LEAGUE: Volcanoes' Magma Dry Last Life Off Struggling Caterpillars

Onduparaka FC's hopes of returning to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League suffered another major setback after a painful 4-0 defeat to SC Volcanoes at St Paul Mutolere Playgrounds in Kisoro.

The Caterpillars travelled to Kisoro searching for their first victory of 2026/27 FUFA big league season but were brought crashing down by a ruthless SC Volcanoes side that needed just two minutes to open the scoring.

Fazil Tumwine Chopra stunned the visitors with an early strike before doubling his tally in the 13th minute, leaving Onduparaka chasing shadows before the break.

The Caterpillars showed some fight after the restart, creating several promising opportunities as they searched for a way back into the contest. However, their lack of cutting edge in front of goal proved costly.

SC Volcanoes made them pay in the final quarter, with Deco Ken's men finding the net twice in quick succession to complete a commanding victory and pile more misery on the struggling Caterpillars.

The defeat comes just days after Geoffrey Akena resigned as head coach, leaving another leadership question hanging over a club already struggling to find its footing.

Amid the uncertainty, former Onduparaka coach Allan Kabonge, popularly known as The Messiah, was spotted in the stands at St Paul Mutolere Playgrounds, raising hopes of a possible return. However, the club is yet to issue an official statement.

The numbers paint a worrying picture for the Caterpillars. Five matches, two points, 11 goals conceded and no victory. Onduparaka are now in the relegation zone, with their dream of a quick return to the top flight facing an increasingly difficult test.
