Kitara FC forward Wahab Gadafi emerged the hero as his decisive goal sent the Royals into the final of the 52nd Stanbic Uganda Cup following a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Vipers SC on Friday, May 15, 2026.
Coming into the second leg semifinal after a goalless first leg in Hoima, Kitara needed a big performance away from home against the newly crowned Uganda Premier League champions — and Gadafi delivered when it mattered most.
The forward remained lively throughout the opening stages and was involved in several attacking moves before eventually breaking the deadlock in the 27th minute. After Vipers goalkeeper failed to deal with a dangerous delivery, Gadafi connected perfectly with Kalema’s cross to head home a crucial away goal that silenced the home crowd.

The strike shifted momentum in Kitara’s favour and ultimately proved enough to send the Royals to the final on the away goals rule despite Vipers later equalising through Watambala from the penalty spot.
Gadafi’s performance was filled with determination, energy, and relentless attacking runs as he constantly troubled the Vipers defence. The striker later suffered a knock late in the game and had to be stretched off the pitch after putting in a tireless shift for the Royals.
Speaking after the dramatic encounter, Gadafi expressed his joy and thanked supporters for standing with him throughout his football journey.
“I feel happy about today’s game, we have worked towards this as a team. I have always been reaching the box,” Gadafi said after the match.
“To my people back home, thank you for the prayers. Since I left Uganda and came back, the support has always been the same.”
The forward also turned his attention to the upcoming final and the remaining semifinal clash between SC Villa and URA FC set for Saturday at FUFA Stadium Kadiba.
“Thank you for your prayers. We now expect a good final from whoever qualifies tomorrow,” he added.
Gadafi’s match-winning contribution now puts Kitara FC one step away from lifting the Stanbic Uganda Cup title as the Royals prepare for a historic final appearance.
