The Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 32 encounter tested patience and composure of URA FC as they booked a place in the Round of 16 after edging Blacks Power FC in a dramatic penalty shootout .
From the first whistle, it was clear this would not be a free-flowing match but a battle of discipline and structure. URA FC struggled to find rhythm, especially after an early injury that forced a tactical reshuffle in the 24th minute.
Yet through the uncertainty, Bright Vuni remained a constant spark after returning from Entebbe UPPC FC where he was at loan , operating with energy and intent, Vuni tracked back to support transitions, and provided the urgency URA desperately needed. While clear-cut chances were limited, his movement off the ball and composure in tight spaces kept the Tax Collectors pushing forward, even as frustrations grew on the touchline, his work rate never dipped .
After 90 minutes and stoppage time failed to separate the sides, the tie went to penalties. The frustration on the touchline was visible for Coach Mbalangu, who is no stranger to the threat posed by Blacks Power, having faced them during his previous tenure at NEC FC.
The significance of the clash was underlined by the spectators in the stands, with Vipers SC Assistant coach John Ayala Luyinda and Fred Muhumuza, a Uganda Cranes Assistant coach closely monitoring the action .
With nerves jangling and expectations heavy, Vuni stepped up when it mattered most, he was calm, composed, and clinical, he converted his spot-kick with authority, setting the tone for URA FC in the shootout.
His confidence spread through the squad, ultimately culminating in Norman Namanya’s decisive 6th penalty that sealed progression blacks power with 5 shootouts after missing a penalty.
Bright Vuni’s impact went beyond his penalty, he embodied resilience, consistency and his mental strength stood out and one thing from the evening certainty was how he rose to the occasion when his team needed him most.
A man of the match performance, a great penalty and a statement of intent as URA FC marches on to the round of 16 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
